New Ward Directory

The new lds.org ward directory is now up. On the new version, you can:
  • Update your phone number and email address directly, rather than submitting requests through the membership clerk.
  • Enter separate phone numbers and email addresses for each family member.
  • Upload individual photos of each of your family members as well as family photos.
  • View your ward photo directory online, with all member photos and names consolidated in one view.
  • View member addresses on a map (the directory integrates with Google Maps).
  • Get driving directions to and from members' addresses.
  • Hide your contact information from view (directory administrator can choose to hide information for those who prefer not to be contacted).
  • See immediate results as you type any part of a member's name. This lets you more easily find members when you only know part of a name.
  • View extensive leader callings for each group in your ward, from callings in Deacons to Primary, Bishopric, and more.
If you do not want your photograph to appear in the online ward directory, notify Chris Seely at 617-459-3642 or seely_chris@yahoo.com

You need your membership number and confirmation date to access the online directory. If you do not know your them, ask Brian Lawrence, Chris Seely, or Doug Hooper.

Ward Garden

It's springtime (really!) and time to claim squatter's rights to a plot in the ward garden. Four sizes of plots are available for your planting, weeding, and harvesting enjoyment.

Introductory size: 4' X 20' ($20 water fee)
Small: 20' X 20' ($30 water fee)
Medium: 30' X 20' ($50 water fee)
Large family size: 40' X 20' ($70 water fee)

Go look at the garden after church. To reserve a plot, call or visit JoAnn Warner at (801) 376-9753.

Once you have your plot, you can incerease the harvest by having the soul tested byu the Soul Testing Laboratory at Utah State University. The kits are available at the Utah State University Extension Office, Room S1200 in the Salt Lake County Government Center (State Street and 2100 South). You need to go to the Extension office to get the kit because with existing technology it is not possible to download the plastic bag for the soil and the approved cardboard mailing container. The kits are free but there is a charge for the testing. USU will send back a soil analysis with recommendations for soil treatment for what you want to grow.

When you are the Extension Office, check out all the handy-dandy publications on growing vegetables and fruits, using fertilizer, home production, and so forth. The publications are also available online at http://extension.usu.edu/.

Energizer Bunny

9 Tips for Instant Energy:

1. Eat citrus or use a citrus-scented body wash or perfume.

2. Listen to music that pumps you up.

3. Stand up straight.

4. Drink more water. Add a lemon to it!

5. Eat a peppermint or use peppermint chapstick.

6. Try a 30-second nap:  It's simple: Sit in chair with your feet firmly on the floor and rest your elbows on your knees while holding your key chain in one hand. Let your head hang down. Exhale slowly and try to shut out distractions. The minute you nod off, you'll drop the keys and wake back up. (Courtesy of The Joy of Laziness by Axt and Axt-Gaderman)

7. Take 3 deep, diaphragmatic breaths (your stomach should be moving).

8. Laugh. At something, of course. Randomly laughing at nothing will get you thrown in the loony bin.

9. Wear red. Paint your nails for a little pick-me-up right on your fingertips!

Our April Goal

This time of the year is a transition time for mother nature. She is nurturing the ground by providing rain, she is caring for the blossoms by raising the temperature and she is planting seeds of love and joy in our hearts by coloring the world with flowers. We can all agree that this time of the year is beautiful, not only because of the colors and fragrances, but because of the reminder of new life all around us.

As we are reminded of the resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we can reflect on His words and His works as we are serving His children. Meaningful friendships blossom as we take time to reach out to the one, not just to help, but to befriend. We should be as excited as a little child when making new and everlasting friendships. Reaching out means nurturing and loving the seeds of friendship we plant, so they grow into eternal bonds of sisterhood.

Some of the greatest and lasting friendships we have come through faithful and diligent visiting teaching. The companion you are assigned now could be a companion you treasure forever. The sisters you teach can take an important place in your life as you take time to ask questions, take time to support, and take time to remember how special they are to your Heavenly Father.

Our Savior, Jesus Christ was sent to the earth to do the will of His Father. Likewise, we are sent to do the will of our Father. "Our own will should be swallowed up in the will of the Father's," said Elder Christofferson. The only way we can know the Father's will is by doing what we have seen done by Christ. Start by visiting your sisters; as you come to know them, you will be able to nurture them through love and before you know it, a friendship will blossom. We as a presidency encourage you to instill a sincere friendship and attitude of nurturing in  your relationship with those God has given you to care for.

Bananas, Peppers, and Brownies

  • Peel a banana from the bottom and you won't have to pick the little "stringy things" off of it. That's how the primates do it.
  • Take your bananas apart when you get home from the store. If you leave them connected at the stem, they ripen faster.
  • Peppers with 3 bumps on the bottom are sweeter and better for eating. Peppers with 4 bumps on the bottom are firmer and better for cooking.
  • For a cool brownie treat, make brownies as directed. Melt Andes mints in double broiler and pour over warm brownies. Let set for a wonderful minty frosting.

Joseph Smith Movie Online

A revised version of the full-length film Joseph Smith: The Prophet of the Restoration is now available online at mormonchannel.org/Joseph. It is the first time the Church has made a full-length film available online. It is also available as a free download in various formats, including HD.

The original 2005 version depicts events in the life of Joseph Smith that help explain the Church's belief in modern prophets and Joseph Smith's role in restoring the Church of Jesus Christ to the earth.

The new version stays true to that original purpose but uses reedited footage from the original film as well as some new footage to create a product that is more understandable for the wider Internet audience. About 40 percent of the film is new material.

Read more about the new release on Newsroom.
